DONATION IN THE WORKPLACE
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Many employers throughout the state have enrolled in the Donate Life Illinois Workplace Partners Campaign to build organ and tissue donation awareness and register donors within the workplace. The campaign has resulted in hundreds of registrations, but many more are needed to offer the gift of hope to people in need of lifesaving and life-enhancing organ and tissue transplants. RAISING DONOR AWARENESS
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sonia and Alex Rodriguez, the wife and brother of Francisco “Paco” Rodriguez, will represent Gift of Hope at the 2012 Donate Life Rose Parade festivities in Pasadena. Sonia is traveling as the floragraph family member; Alex will ride on the Donate Life Rose parade float on January 2 along with Alexis Sloan, who received Paco’s heart. Paco, a professional boxer whose story was featured in April on ESPN and NBC, gave life to five people through donation after his tragic death in a 2009 title bout. He will be honored on the Donate Life Rose Parade float with a floragraph—a floral portrait of Paco. In preparation for their Rose Parade trip, Sonia and Alex took part in a December 13 special event in Chicago to honor Paco. At the event, the Rodriguez family put the finishing touches on Paco’s floragraph before it was sent to Pasadena.

DONATION IN THE NEWS
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The story of liver transplant recipient Peter Cashman, an avid Chicago Bears fan, and his gracious donor, Amy Larson, a Green Bay Packers fan who gave life to Cashman through donation, received national exposure on NBC Sports on Christmas Day. Cashman was near death awaiting a liver transplant in March 2010 when Larson died at age 32 and her parents chose to donate her organs. Her liver went to Cashman. NBC Sports aired the touching story, which featured the first meeting between the Cashman family and Larson’s family, during its pre-game show for the Bears vs. Packers Sunday Night Football game on Christmas. ChicagoBears.com first ran the story in May.
